Performance rises with Technical Limits

Amerada Hess' Equatorial Guinea operating company Triton began its partnership with The REACH Group in September 2003 when Hess managers selected an improvement methodology known as Technical Limits (TL) for its deepwater drilling operations in the Rio Muni Basin. They began with a two-well pilot project and have now extended TL methodology to four additional wells.

Based on the successes with the first projects, Amerada Hess' managers saw an opportunity to apply the same methodology to its completions operations. They believed completions were ripe for TL and were convinced the process could help improve performance in this area. more

BP alaska well team uses rapid cycling to push the
boundaries of technical limits

Located on the north slope of Alaska, BP Alaska faces many unique challenges that come with operating in a severe and harsh climate. In this difficult environment, the advantages of coiled tubing drilling (CTD) are leveraged towards sidetrack/re-completes as compared to rotary drilling as it is intrinsically quicker.

BP Alaska Wells Team, and its Technical Limits implementation partner, The REACH Group of Houston Texas, employ a variation of the Technical Limits concept to streamline its operations. CTD operations force a more rapid passing through the cycles of the Technical Limits process. This rapid cycling thoroughly tested the integrity of Technical Limits. The ability to enhance leadership communication led BP Alaska to try different approaches and quickly determine optimum settings. This allowed them to increase their focus on operational safety, plan more projects within a set time frame, gain efficiency in operational tasks, and achieve tangible and measurable dollar improvement. more
